開花丼 / 「開花丼」の「開花」は、卵がとろりと“開く”ように具材を包み込む様子を表すとともに、縁起の良い“開花”の意味も持ちます。また、明治時代に新たに日本に入ってきた豚肉を使ったことから、「文明開化」の精神も込められた、歴史と味わい深い一品です。
Kaikadon / Pork and egg simmered with onion, served over rice. (Similar to Katsudon, but with sliced pork instead of a cutlet.)Name of origin: The name "Kaikadon" (開花丼) means "Blooming Bowl." It signifies the egg "blooming" as it cooks and embraces the ingredients. It also carries the auspicious meaning of "flourishing" or "prosperity." Furthermore, as pork became a newly accepted ingredient in Japan during the Meiji era of "Bunmei Kaika" (Civilization and Enlightenment),
the name subtly reflects this historical period of progress and new beginnings.
